Oakland University’s School of Engineering and Computer Science is committed to introducing high school and pre-college students to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Resources.
Thanks to this early introduction by passionate educators, students are guided to a pathway leading toward a successful education and career in the technological workforce.
SECS hosts outreach programs, both on and off campus, throughout the academic year and summer months. Faculty routinely visit high schools, junior highs, middle and elementary schools.

Zero Tolerance Policy - The Oakland University School of Engineering and Computer Science has a
zero tolerance policy. Any summer camper, who engages in threatening behavior, fighting, or acts of
violence, will be immediately expelled from the camp without refund.

This camp explores the intersection of science and creativity. Participants will dive into a week of hands-on fun building with LEGO bricks and discovering the wonders of science. From constructing cool models to exploring engineering and robotics concepts, campers will unleash their imagination and curiosity in a dynamic, engaging environment
NEW! Engineering and Math Creation Camp

At our Engineering and Math Camp little minds become big problem-solvers! From building simple structures to discovering patterns and shapes, this camp introduces fundamental engineering concepts and math basics in a fun, interactive way. This is a week filled with creativity, discovery, and lots of fun!

Computer Science Camps
CodeStart: Basic Coding Adventure (Coding Level 1)
Elementary: June 10-14; Middle School: June 17-21
This camp is designed for students who have an interest in computer science. Students will journey through computer history and operating systems, setting the stage for their coding quest. Using the Tynker platform, they will discover the magic of sequencing, game editing, and animation coding. Daily immersive coding sessions, mixing block-based and line-based fun will gear campers up for hands-on activities and help them uncover a thrilling world of coding fundamentals.
Code Quest Camp: (Coding Level 2)
Elementary: July 29-August 2; Middle School: July 8-12
Coding Quest Camp is geared to students with a basic understanding of coding. Campers will explore Python, Java, HTML, and the thrilling universe of coding. They will craft websites and game designs during a week bursting with hands-on fun and mind-bending challenges.
Minecraft Basics
Elementary: June 24-28; July 22-26; Middle School: July 15-19; August 5-9
This camp is for seasoned players. Campers will dive into challenges that merge gaming excitement with learning— building, survival, player versus player showdowns, and a splash of coding fun! At the end of each day, participants will showcase their epic creations.
Virtual Reality Camp Part 1: Virtual Reality World Builders Camp
Middle School: June 24-28; July 29- August 2
Campers will dive into the cutting-edge world of virtual reality using Unreal Engine 5, an industry-standard application that combines a user-friendly interface with blueprint programming. Through hands-on experiences, students will craft their own virtual reality worlds, seamlessly integrating computer-aided design (CAD) software to bring objects to life. The camp explores the distinctions between virtual reality and augmented reality, offering a comprehensive understanding of their programming nuances. By the end of this camp, students will export their creations for continued development at home.
Virtual Reality Camp Part 2: Advanced Virtual Reality Camp
Middle School: August 5-9
This camp is for students who have completed the Virtual Reality World Builders Camp. This advanced experience takes campers’ virtual journey to new heights by delving deeper into Unreal Engine 5, refining their skills in world-building and blueprint programming. Participants will strengthen their understanding of virtual and augmented reality distinctions while utilizing Meta Quest headsets. Students will export their enhanced worlds for further development at home. Additionally, a visit to our Augmented Reality Center will unveil more industry-leading virtual and augmented reality systems.

NEW! Additive Manufacturing
Grades 8-10: July 15-19
At Additive Manufacturing Adventure Camp campers discover the future of making by exploring the world of additive manufacturing that shapes medical marvels, vehicle designs, and airplane wings. They will dive into hands-on experiences, studying robotics assembly lines and uncovering cutting-edge manufacturing processes. Students will use CAD software, designing and assembling a working 3D model from scratch.
Bioengineering Elementary
Elementary: July 15-19
At Elementary Bioengineering Camp participants will dive into understanding how our bodies work by crafting models of various body parts, such as the heart and skeletal system. They will also explore the thrilling realm of the connection to paleontology and uncovering the wonders of dinosaur fossils.
Bioengineering Middle School
Middle School: June 24-28
This exclusive Bioengineering Camp will unravel the wonders of bioengineering and its real-world applications. Participant will engage in such hands-on activities as crafting body part models, delving into forensic science mysteries, how diseases spread, and understanding the vital role of medical knowledge.
Chemical Engineering
Elementary: July 29 – August 2
Middle School: July 8-12
At Chemical Engineering Adventure Camp budding scientists will explore the main principles of chemical engineering. Daily hands-on activities will unveil the magic behind acid-base reactions, density, pressure, and more. Participants will engage in slime-making experiments revealing chemical reactions, volcano creations to understand acids and bases, and kinetic sand molding to explore states of matter—all within the realm of a real laboratory.
Engineering Exploration
Elementary: June 17- 21; August 5-9 Middle School: June 10-14
The camp is designed for students who want to learn about the full variety of core STEM concepts. Each day participant will unlock a new world of hands-on experiments and activities covering various STEM disciplines. From coding adventures in Scratch to Python, creating slime for chemistry insights, and building roller coasters to grasp energy concepts, it's a fun-filled journey through industrial, mechanical, electrical, chemical, bioengineering, and computer science.
Ground Robotics Elementary
Elementary: June 10-14; July 8-12
At Ground Robotics Camp participants will dive into the ELEGOO Building Block Car Kit and VEX Robotics Zip Flyer robots. They will use problem-solving skills to build, modify, and program robots for exciting challenges, learn coding principles through visual blocks, and compete in remote control challenges.
Ground Robotics Middle School
Middle School: June 17-21; 24-28
Students will explore VEX clawbots, Elegoo OwlBot smart cars, and conqueror tanks to discover the essential skills of robotics: creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. They will dive into basic block code programming using the Elegoo platform and kick off with VEX by assembling the clawbot. Team-based challenges will take them into more advanced programming.
Programming Electro-Mechanical Gadgets
Middle School: July 22-26
Programming and Electro-Mechanical Gadgets camp offers an immersive dive into binary coding, simple programming, and the captivating world of interface technology. This hands-on experience bridges computer science and engineering as participants explore wiring, connections with electrical and mechanical devices, and work hands-on with Arduino, binary code, soldering, hot glue, wiring, breadboards, and components to tackle exciting projects that blend creativity and technology.
High School SAT and Mathematics Camps - not available in 2024
SAT Math Camp - Pre-Algebra
High School: June 17-21
SAT Math Prep Camp for Pre-Algebra is a specialized program designed to ace those crucial foundational math concepts. Participants will dive into a week-long (40 hours) of intensive focused on mastering pre- algebraic skills. Through engaging lessons, practice tests, and interactive sessions, students will boost their confidence and sharpen their math proficiency, setting the stage for SAT success.
SAT Math Camp - Algebra 1
High School: June 24-28
SAT Math Prep Camp for Algebra is the ultimate guide to mastering Algebraic concepts! Students will dive into an intensive week focused on strengthening algebraic skills, solving equations, and navigating complex problems. Through comprehensive lessons, practice tests, and interactive sessions, students will build a solid foundation, gaining confidence to conquer the SAT Math section.
SAT Math Camp - Geometry
High School: July 15-19
SAT Math Geometry Camp is an immersive journey into conquering Geometry for the SAT! Students will dive into a specialized week focusing on mastering geometric concepts, shapes, and problem-solving strategies. Through interactive lessons, practice sessions, and engaging activities, students will sharpen their understanding of angles, shapes, and spatial reasoning, gaining confidence to ace the SAT Math section.
SAT Math Camp – Pre-Calculus
High School: July 22-26
SAT Math Prep Camp for Pre-Calculus is a specialized program designed to elevate student math skills. Participants will dive into an intensive week focused on mastering advanced algebraic concepts, functions, and trigonometry, all crucial for SAT success. Through immersive lessons, targeted practice tests, and interactive sessions, students will refine their problem-solving abilities and enhance their understanding of pre-calculus topics.
Calculus for Future Engineers
High School: July 29- August 2
Calculus for Future Engineers is an introduction to the foundation for engineering excellence. Campers will dive into an intensive and engaging week tailored for aspiring engineers, delving into the world of calculus. They will explore fundamental concepts like derivatives, integrals, limits, and applications relevant to engineering. Through interactive lessons, hands-on problem-solving, and real-world engineering scenarios, participants will develop a strong understanding of calculus, setting the stage for their future engineering endeavors.

GenCyber Summer Camp aims to empower students with essential knowledge and skills in cybersecurity, a field crucial for success in today's world. In this immersive and hands-on camp, students will learn and practice the GenCyber cybersecurity concepts, cybersecurity ethics, cybersecurity first principles, cybersecurity career awareness, online safety, cryptography, cyber threats, cybercrimes and cyber laws, and technical skills (e.g., Python, Java)
